WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A STUDIO

When considering dance for your child there are few things to consider that you may not have thought of. Here is a list of the top ten most important qualities to look for in a dance studio. Remember there is a studio out there for everyone and finding the right one that aligns with your values as a parent is important for both you and your future dancer.

1 Staff: What is the teachers background in dance? Do they have a degree or special training/certifications?

2 Environment:

Is it a safe, clean, healthy and happy atmosphere for your dancer ?

3 Studio culture:

What are their core values and do they align with yours?

4 Safe space:

Is the studio equipped with proper flooring, barres etc?

5 Studio’s primary focus:

Does the studio focus on all dancers at any level or strictly competition team?

6 Age/level appropriate costuming, technique, and choreography:

Does the studio value and demonstrate age appropriate costuming and support safe practices for every dancers mind, body and spirit?

7 Teachers for babies and beginners:

Who teaches the little ones and beginners? Are they qualified in early child development techniques?

8 Social media exposure and permission: Do you need to sign something giving permission with the option to opt out on your dancers name/image being used?

9 Class size:

How many dancers are enrolled in each class? This can give insight as to the quality of training they will receive personally.

10 Business practices:

What are the studios policies on things like payment, attendance, attire etc.?

I understand that sometimes as a busy parent you may opt for the studio closest to your home/work. However when it comes the mental/physical safety and growth of your dancer I would recommend asking some questions. Who knows, you may just find the perfect fit.
